Two features are available that allow OpenBuildings™ GenerativeComponents to interface with external databases, as well as database and text files: DataImporter and DataExporter. Each of these two nodes share the same techniques, allowing you to connect to an external database to read and write data, access a database file stored on an accessible drive, or access a similarly available text file. When connecting to an external database, OpenBuildings™ GenerativeComponents is compatible with four database connection APIs: Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), OLE DB (Object Linking and Embedding, Database), and SQL (Structured Query Language).

OpenBuildings™ GenerativeComponents is also compatible with four types of database files: Microsoft^® Access™, Microsoft SQL Server™ Express, and Text.
